WebQuest Activity

This WebQuest activity is geared towards Forensic Sciences. In this activity, student play the roles of a crime scene investigator and are walked through a step by step case of a car accident by police detectives. Students are provided a crime scene sheet in which they are required to report all visual damages of the impacted cars, draw a diagram of the roads at which the accident took place, and learn how to properly label and gather evidence at a potential crime scene. This activity is extremely interactive. It is very beneficial in that after each mini-section of a scene, there is an activity called “quiz time,” in which students must answer each of the questions following that activity correctly in order to proceed onward to the next task. After collecting evidence, the students are tasked with interviewing eye witnesses, calculating forces, and then drawing the necessary conclusions.

The one thing I found a little difficult on this task was measuring the tire/skid marks. The measurement tools the online activity provided are not realistic and it may be difficult for students to use this tool in order to acquire the accurate measurements.

I would highly recommend this activity for students in a forensic science class. This would serve as an introduction tutorial for gathering and collecting evidence.

  1. I think this a really cool activity! Great for interactive working when you don't have access to a real crime scene. I also like that there is a quiz to make sure that the students are learning something while doing this activity.

While this seems great, I do agree with you that is a problem to not be able to take accurate measurements. I think that if you let the students know how to take measurements it could be adequate enough. What would you change, so that you can teach students about accurate measurements?
